Invisible Minerals Part I - Magnesium, by Carolyn Dean MD ND

This book describes magnesium and gives dozens of testimonials about the effectiveness of this miracle magnesium. There are many forms of magnesium but there are forms that are better absorbed than others. Pico-Ionic magnesium is the best absorbed form of magnesium you will ever find.*

Magnesium is a necessary cofactor for 700-800 enzymes that perform vital metabolic functions in the body. It’s a simple mineral that prevents and treats diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, migraines, heart disease, osteoporosis, anxiety, insomnia, and a dozen other serious health conditions.

I’ve just listed many chronic conditions that people are suffering today, yet has your doctor ever told you to take magnesium? Probably not. That’s because nutrient therapy is not taught in medical school. Magnesium is not regarded as a first-line therapeutic agent in hospitals or doctor’s offices and it’s not a patentable drug. For all these reasons, mainstream medicine remains blind to the extent of magnesium deficiency that is reported to be present in 70-80 percent of the population.

In the past few years physicists have determined that the mineral ion channels that are the gateways through which minerals enter cells are only 400-500 picometers in diameter.

Ion channels are composed of proteins that form pores through a cell membrane. These specialized proteins help establish and control the voltage traveling across the cell membranes by allowing ions to flow along a particular gradient. That may not make a lot of sense to you but these ion channels are crucial components of the membranes that surround all biological cells.

If minerals don’t properly get inside cells, because they are too large, then non-mineralized water floods into the cells and the large-sized minerals stay outside. All forms of edema, including brain edema, are caused by fluid and electrolyte imbalance at the cellular level.

Pico-Ionic minerals are small enough to directly enter into cells bringing the minerals where they are most needed. Inside the cell, minerals are responsible for the 70-90 millivolts of energy that creates intracellular communication. A body can only be as healthy as its cells.

Another important aspect about Pico-Ionic minerals is that people who suffer from IBS-diarrhea, Crohn’s and colitis can use Pico-Ionic magnesium without causing a laxative effect.

Magnesium has a wonderful failsafe mechanism that prevents it from building up in the body – the laxative effect. What’s not absorbed into the bloodstream and into the cells after a dose of magnesium goes through the kidneys into the urine and also through the intestines as loose stool. Some people find that any form of magnesium in pills or powder can cause an immediate laxative effect. This means you can’t get enough magnesium into your blood and cells to effectively fight your magnesium deficiency symptoms before it explodes out the other end!! Even the Pico-Ionic form of magnesium will cause this effect after your body has become saturated with magnesium and you take 2-3 times the maintenance dose.

*Disclosure: Dr. Dean created the pico-ionic form of magnesium called ReMag to make a therapeutic, non-laxative form of magnesium available to the public.

Conflict of Interest?
By Bill Hilly
Gee, Carolyn, after reading your book I feel like I bought a commercial. Seems as though on every other page you advertised, ah excuse me, "recommended" your favorite, "Micro-Angstrom-Best-Magnesium-Ever" (RaMag Pico-Ionic Magnesium--sorry, but I want to get it right). I even did a Google search only to find a picture of your book on the same page with "your" RaMag. Not exactly like a professional independent recommendation is it? Also, I failed to find a "disclosure statement", I must assume that you have nothing to disclose. Make matters even worse your magnesium is on the same website that's hawking RNA-Drops. Yeah, right, another internet hype, betcha.

Sad thing about this shady ploy is that magnesium supplement is important, perhaps even the most important supplement. Regardless it's right up there with vitamin-C, B, D, iodine, and Celtic Sea Salt--and I have nothing to disclose--although wish I had; which reminds me, check out "Vitamin K2: And the Calcium Paradox" (it'll blow your mind!). By the way, Amazon sells MotherEarth Angstrom Magnesium at a reasonable price: $25.95 (Angstrom Minerals, Magnesium-8 ozs.). Angstrom: 1.0 × 10-10 meters, meaning it's pretty dang small and should absorb through the mucosa lining in the mouth.

My opinion without the hype, thank you; and quite frankly, I should only give this book a 1-star review because that's all it's worth. Nevertheless, the subject is FIVE-STARS, so I don't want to be the cause for someone missing out just because of low book review. But that does not excuse Dr. Dean's tarnished professional ethics. It's all about the money and I wonder who gave this review the "NO" votes?

Regardless, I urge the reader to skip over Carolyn's "RaRaMag" advertisements and pick up on the benefits of magnesium supplements. A better book about magnesium is Sherry Roger's The High Blood Pressure Hoax. Now here's an author with a more balanced presentation and instead of trying to sell her own products this naturopathic physician simply outlines how to treat hypertension by using magnesium.

Yes, I will brag on myself; at 72 years of age, I require NO prescribed pharmaceuticals whatsoever and yet my blood pressure is 127/75 mmHg and a pulse of 70. So, you see, magnesium, vitamin-C, along with CHIA SEEDS (hint, hint!) works for me; I used to take propranolol 40mg twice a day. No more, cause I thought I had a high blood pressure problem, instead I just had a magnesium deficiency. Now, I have neither.

H,mmmmmm?

This book does contain useful information. However, to call it a "book" insults what books once were and the authors who wrote them. A good deal of the material in this book is in the format of something akin to the cheering section for a teenage girls advice column. e.g."I have more energy and feel fantastic! ........ and this is the answer to my prayers!" The praises go on and on. In furtherance of these exultations, the many quoted responses look and sound suspiciously similar, as if perhaps, they were all written by the same person who also needed to fill out some pages! The reader gets the distinct impression that the author is a hard worker, but was in quite a hurry to bang this work out - while the race is on to capitalize on the new, well promoted - Pico-Ionic Magnesium, (of which she appears to be the sole proprietor).

To say this book is great is an understatement
By Patti Leppo
To say this book is great is an understatement. A life changing miracle (for me) is more like it. Despite being a vegetarian and trying to eat healthy by taking supplements, for the last several years I've struggled with fatigue and mood swings that interfered with my daily life and future plans. While my friends were out hiking and running marathons all I want to do is stay home and rest. I've experienced a majority of the symptoms listed on appendix A. I recently had my hormones tested and learned that my estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels were low. I started taking these hormones and they stopped the mood swings for the most part, but the fatigue remained. I had an in-depth blood test done for this and just discovered the results of my magnesium levels were not on the test. I've also struggled for three years with a strong and debilitating craving for alcohol, because alcoholism runs in my family. I've been praying for a miracle to help me with both of these issues. My prayers were finally answered when I read this book. I have been taking 500 mg of magnesium oxide but felt no improvement. Her explanation that only 5% is absorbed made complete sense. After reading the book I rushed to Sprout's and purchased magnesium citrate powder. I plan to purchase ReMag but felt I needed something in the meantime. All alcohol cravings ceased after my first glass of the powdered drink. Nothing I've tried before has ever worked. Thank you, Dr. Dean, for writing this book. I can't find enough words to say how grateful I am.
I have to add that I did additional research on my own and read that hormone levels are regulated by magnesium and DHEA, and a deficiency in these are the basis for most illnesses. I am now taking DHEA as well. I also learned that the combination of these regulate hormones, something the hormone center failed to mention.
