Great for the pre-schooler as well as the college grad!

I first heard this book read on a radio program while driving, I had tears in my eyes and knew that I had to buy this as a graduation present for my daughter who was to be graduating from college in a week. My descision was based on the fact that she learned to read using Dr. Suess before entering kindergarten, why not end her scholastic career with Dr. Suess. She loved and apprecatied the gift and I'm sure she'll share it over and over with her nieces and nephews and her own children someday. It's so to the point, you have shoes on your feet and brains in your head....

I owe this book my life

I didn't receive this book upon graduation or success, or during any sort of right of passage moment. This book was read to me when I was on the verge of suicide. My depression had put blinders on me, and I could see it in the distance as a warm, easy option that I could take and no one would be mad or disappointed, or at least not so's I'd notice. Then my friend read this book to me.
At first I rolled my eyes. "Why congratulate? Today ISN'T my day. Today is garbage." It continued on about how well I would do and all the nifty things I'll accomplish, and how I would continuously meet with success.
Except when I don't. Because sometimes, I won't.
She read about confusion and horror. She read about being in a slump, about having to wait, about being alone and how it makes you see things that scare you. I cried.
"But on you will go
though the weather be foul.
On you will go
though your enemies prowl.
On you will go
though the Hakken-Kraks howl.
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak.
On and on you will hike,
And I know you'll hike far
and face up to your problems
whatever they are."
Buy this book. Read it to someone you care about, not at their highest point, but their lowest. At that moment these are the words that can save a life. I know that they saved mine.

Graduation gift for my son in 2026! So excited!

I received a soft cover copy of the book “I knew you could” given to me at my high school graduation by a dear family friend and inside the cover she had written the most loving meaningful letter to me about how far I had come in life and how far I was going to go and that she was excited to be there along the way and watch me on the journey! That simple gift means so much to me! Now that I have my own children I want to give them each something that will bring that feeling of love and acceptance for them that I feel when I read that book. I decided to replicate the graduation gift idea but with a little spin! I purchased this hardcover book so that each year my sons teachers can write him a special note inside and at his high school graduation I will present it to him. I think this book it is a much more "man friendly" gift option that can be easily saved throughout the years for me to take to each grade and afterwards for my son to take with him to college and off into life. So far we have 2 years of preschool teachers (thankfully I was able to track them down), kindergarten, 1st and he just started 2nd grade. I have a while but I am so glad that I have this book to have loving words added to along the way.
The book itself is hardcover with a protective sleeve. Great quality!
