ludicrous imo

Oh dear this one is not for me, yet another one of these books that I couldn't finish. My first problem is yet again we have two characters meeting and jumping straight into bed with each other, then saying such things like `his usual self'. How do you know what his usual self is you have just met? What happened to developing the characters and creating some sexual tension? It seems that some people think the success of fifty shades is just the sex so better get to that point in the story as fast as you can. Well it isn't, we want to know the character, feel something for them and start to like them not just get to shagging straight away.

My second problem is Bianca, she is a 23 year old virgin who has suffered some sort of abuse in her childhood which means that she doesn't date. I don't know if we find out what sort of abuse as I didn't finish the book. Even though we find out this bit of information and Bianca has held onto her virginity for a long time she has no problems what so ever giving it away to a complete stranger who manages to make her orgasm 900 times the first time they get frisky (ok a slight exaggeration there but you know what I mean). Next we learn that James Cavendish is into BDSM. Now please forgive me because I don't know anything about BDSM but I don't think you would go around blurting to random strangers especially virgins about how you were going to put them over your knee and spank them. I finally had to give up when James is putting nipple clamps on the still virginal and clueless Bianca.

I really didn't like this book in fact I thought it was ludicrous. The best part for me was reading about her job as a flight attendant, which says something when the book is Erotic Romance. I am going to give In Flight 1 star and leave you with the un-sexiest line I've ever read.

Stunning Debut Romance

BE STILL MY BEATING HEART!

Holy Freaking WOW! Make room Christian Grey, Gideon Cross, Braden Carmichael - there's a new fictional boyfriend in the harem and that man is Mr James melt my freakin' panties Cavendish. How much did I love him? Let me count the ways!

He's a super uber-alpha dominant male, he's possessive, protective, controlling, a bit of a sadist, romantic, tender, fierce, generous, caring, soulful - I could go on and on and rain down superlatives but my heart and stomach really did do crazy little flip-flops the whole time I was reading this and they are still doing it now as I think back and remind myself! I have a major crush on him.

He meets the very reserved flight attendant Bianca and they share an instant, mind-blowing connection. The world around them grinds to a halt as they just stare at one another, completely unable to look away. Mr Cavendish is seriously rich and uses his wealth and influence to see her again and they embark on an incredibly passionate D/s relationship.

It's not just all about the sex though - I loved the way he tenderly took off Bianca's make-up when she was falling down drunk, the way carried her and held her when she cried, the way he just wanted to care for her and cherish her and protect her from the world.

Of course, there's more to it than that - they both have troubled pasts and both are keeping secrets and only a few are revealed in this instalment. One of those secrets will have huge implications for Bianca before the end of this one and they're being so guarded that they struggle with the dynamics of their relationship.

I'd just like to give a big virtual hug to Stephan, Bianca's best friend, a gay flight attendant, and her biggest and fiercest protector. They share a uniquely special bond and I loved him, almost as much as I loved Mr Cavendish.

Of course, there are sequels to come and this one ends with everything up in the air and on a moment of absolute desperation. There's absolutely no way in hell that I'm not moving straight onto the sequel. I've given this book 5 stars. I know that I'm a generally positive reviewer, I like most of what I read but I rarely give out 5 stars but I dragged that fifth one out for this one because of how it made me feel. I just LOVED it.

WHAT???? This book is not getting the praise/momentum it deserves!

I never thought there would be two characters I could love as much as Ana/Christian, even though Eva/Gideon came very close. But, I'm here to tell you that the Up in the Air books (which I just devoured in two days) rocked my world! Such a great story and while there were so many similarities, this book didn't feel like a rip off or clingon of the success of FSOG or Bared to You books. These books are stand alone and stand outs!!!

James and Bee are freaking amazing! They have more issues than a newsstand, they are believable (which is important in my 23 year old virgins and young billionaires!), they have some bad people in their lives and they have great friends.

This book is hot, it's deep and it's some how a wonderfully kept secret, which is too bad. I'm grateful though, that I found In Flight after book 2 was released because I opened it about 2 seconds after finishing this. I'm not sure how I will wait until February for the 3rd book.

I'm for sure auto downloading anything/everything Lilley writes. Esp if I can borrow it free! I didn't borrow this one because it received such great reviews on Goodreads that I wanted to read it ASAP. It was WELL WORTH the money and after reading it, I would have paid more. This book is just well done on all counts.

An essential to the library called your mind

For nearly 30 years I have carried this book with me virtually everywhere. No, it's not "an easy read" - but it is worth buying (owning)and treasuring - if only for the FOURTH LETTER (to a German Friend)- it is the most moving argument/declaration for humanity and choosing it that I have ever seen anywhere.
Some (like Sartre?) might call it a "rationalization". But even those who have resigned themselves to the religions of cynicism and despair - could find a remnant of fight and even "goodness" (yikes!) inside themselves. Camus' words remind us that resignation and the inevitable indifference and inhumanity that follow are the ultimate betrayals of life.
While there is nothing "cheerful" or even optimistic about these writings - you'd have to be cold-blooded, heartless and completely beyond repair or redemption not to be inspired by the wistful aspirations that Camus exudes from his admittedly battered heart and soul.
I disagree with the reviewer (who did praise this precious book) Sartre is smart - but so is Camus - and Camus exudes the humanity that Sartre can't even see or imagine.
Sartre would tell us that we always have the freedom to at least rattle our chains (at least theoretically) - but Camus has the power to inspire us to want to.

The agony of a humanist

This collection of essays is the most brilliant one of Camus' diverse smaller non-fiction writings. The bulk of this book concerns his journalistic writings on the Algerian Revolution, Soviet Union etc. Through these essays, you understand the pain of Camus. Camus' ethics doesn't agree to mindless violence for the sake of power. He makes an impassioned plea for tolerance and humanitarian solutions to the problems of war and peace.

Camus is not necessarily logical or politically correct. His stand on the issue of independence of Algeria is a compromised position between French imperialism and Algerian aspirations for freedom during that period. However, in his passion for diagnozing the problems of his time and addressing them, he hits upon a lot of interesting insights and arguments.

Particularly brilliant for both its analysis and its conclusion is Camus' landmark long essay 'Reflections on the Guillotine' which occupies a fair part of the book. In this essay, Camus systematically demolishes all legal or quasi-moral justifications for capital punishment and answers the third aspect of the question - Whether human life is worth taking?

In his 'The Myth of Sisyphus', he had argued against self-murder. In 'The Rebel', he argued against murder and genocide. In this essay, he argues against legalized murder. But unlike his earlier works where he offered weak arguments after a brilliant analysis, here he hits the mark by demolishing the justifications for capital punishment, totally. This particular essay deserves to be considered a classic in the philosophy of law and justice.

Bracing clarity

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It has provided me with the strongest, most clear-headed confidence in the face of unrelenting hypocrisy and struggle. Camus was on the side of the angels for all of the conflicts of his time, a time that saw the darkest face of humanity. His arguments for compassion and justice are utterly transfixing and revelatory, and written with a clarity and insight that are simply breath-taking.

I challenge anyone that supports the death penalty to read "Reflections on the Guillotine" and walk away with their arguments intact. In this piece Camus utterly demolishes every argument for state-sanctioned murder while defending the right to live with dignity, a right that can easily encompass the self-defense by combat necessitated by circumstance.

Camus was a moral, intellectual, and physical hero, and reading these essays one is almost overcome by his sense of humilty, justice, and compassion. His writing is so crystalline, it's almost jolting. This is a powerful tonic for all those that despair of creating a place for the best qualities of the human race in times of utter darkness. A must-read.
