Most of my adult life I was overweight. I've tried every type of diet out there imaginable and nothing worked long term. How difficult is it to stay on any diet plan when the next day you can "cheat"?

Psychologists in research studies have shown that people who don't believe they are on a diet are more consistent and successful with their weight loss endeavors. On the other hand, tell anyone that they can't have something (i.e. a cookie, ice cream, fast food, etc.) and they will always fall of the diet wagon the first chance they can get.

The Every-Other-Day Diet puts you in the psychological mind set to understand that when you diet today, you don't have to diet tomorrow. When you don't diet tomorrow, you are back on the diet (for one day) the following day.

Basic concept, right?

There's an alternative to the concept which is dieting for 5 days of the week and then going off your diet each weekend.

Okay, so since I told you the idea behind the "secret" of The Every-Other-Day Diet, what's left to read in the book?

In order to maximize your weight loss on your diet days (and non-diet days), you have to know how to set up your diet including implementing mild cleansing techniques, which foods to eat (and avoid on diet days), which foods and supplements to make sure you add to your non-diet days in particular to keep your body losing weight (even when you are "cheating") and many more secrets you've never heard of!

One last thing: The reason this diet is so much more effective than all the others out there is because you are "tricking" your body into believing you aren't cutting down calories (which is required for weight loss) even though you are because you're on a diet at least half of every week. It's a scientific fact that when someone goes on a diet, the metabolism will slow down. When your body doesn't believe it's on a diet (because you get a non-diet day so often), it enhances faster weight loss because it isn't unnecessarily hanging onto body fat.

If you've tried every other weight loss plan out there, this is the one you need to finally lose the weight for good! Even better, this is definitely a plan you can stay on for the rest of your life!

Waste of time and money!

If I could give this book zero stars I would, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It is poorly written, the content is all over the place, constantly jumping from one topic to another and back again. A very frustrating read, with really nothing worthwhile to be taken from it. My favorite part has to be at the very end where the author tells you to go to trimasize.com to get the secret to her weight loss and what you get instead is godaddy.com. Hoping and praying Amazon will refund my money and remove this thing from my Kindle app! I recommend this book to nobody!

This has to be one of the WORST books I have ever attempted to read.

This "book" appears to have been written by someone to whom English is a second or third language. Author HINT: If you aren't a native English-speaker, please, Please, PLEASE get a native English speaker to proofread and edit your manuscript BEFORE you try to publish it.

I got it through Kindle Unlimited and I hope I didn't read enough to make Amazon pay the "author" ANY royalties.

Narrow-Minded as always...

I noticed this author has written a number of books "in rebuttal" to beliefs that do not fit into his (as usual) narrow-minded Christian way of thinking. Of course, the only truth, according to this author/minister, is his interpretation of the Bible, where all others fail to provide truth. Pathetic, ridiculous, and as usual, unloving.

If out of body experiences cannot verify any "objective" evidence (objective, really? The universe may just be a Holographic Universe, and the new scientific paradigm--based on the quantum mechanic work of David Bohm and Karl Pribram-- is already heading that way, therefore, "objective" may all be a mere, fantastic illusion). But anyway, if nothing is verified, then it was a deception of the brain, BUT...if there are clear-cut, verifiable evidence (and there are, numerous accounts), then it's a spiritual deception. Why? Oh simple, because only the author's idea of doctrine can be the truth, and no other.

Such a weak style of arguing, not to mention arrogant.

Dogma versus True Experience

This book is the equivalent of a child who has never been to Paris arguing with someone who travels to Paris several times a year and knows it intimately. It's like someone who has read a book about boxing stepping in to the ring with a professional boxer. It is obvious that Mr. King has never had a profound spiritual experience in his life and he is arguing with someone who has had direct and profound experiences 'beyond the veil' repeatedly. If anything, this book just highlights the silliness of dogma, and how mechanical the Church has become. "Churchianity" has not been based on direct spiritual experience for thousands of years, but the sages who wrote the Bible were writing about experiences like Robert Monroe's. People like Mr. King have bought the dogma that they should believe in the legitimacy of ancient spiritual experience, but not current; because direct experience would challenge the Church's authority. Believing versions of the truth passed down by centuries of patriarchs does not measure up to first-hand experience.

I wished they had - neg stars!

I would give that book a 5 negative stars, if that was possible... why do "authors" like R.A. King have to wast their time and everyone else's that reads the book? It is highly biased and of no substance. If I want to read the bible I will.. don't need This guy to tell me what to think about OOBE's, astral travel and criticise Probert Monroe's experiences.. I had my own OOBE's and know what that means for me. it's valid for me, no one else needs to judge my experience nor comment. So my advice is read Robert Monroe's books and hear for yourself what humans are capable of achieving. Don't wast your time and money on Kings book.

When I set out to write Tainted Love, my aim was to create something that mirrored the books I love to read. I'm a romantic at heart, I love commercial women’s fiction. But as a writer I often find myself sliding into darker edgier stories. For this reason, the Behind Closed Doors series has a mixture of elements; compelling psychological thriller, gripping suspense and gritty romance. Written in the style of intimate letters, its feels like the characters are friends and they’re telling you the deepest secret.

Erin Cawood is a commercial women's fiction author, with a taste for dramatic storylines and a passion for strong lead characters she can really get behind, and cheer on right to the very end of their story. Her focus? Taking romance into the darker, edgier side of contemporary fiction.

Erin lives in Leeds, UK, with her partner of seventeen years. Fascinated by web design and digital communication, Erin completed a BA(hons) in New Media at the University of Leeds. Before returning to full time education, Erin had worked at a theme park, a convenience store, a public house/restaurant both in the kitchen and waitressing, as an insurance agent in a customer contact centre.

Heart-wrenching, Powerful Debut

I don't normally read this genre, but the premise made me curious. I'm so glad I bought it! I found myself drawn into a world I know nothing about--a world of abuse. Cawood's writing style lulls you at first, into a happy marriage and a woman's desire to protect and love her family. I really felt like Faith did, as if I was in the middle of it, like millions of abused women do every day--how slow and invasive abuse can be until the breaking point.

Brilliant first novel from a new talent. I know this is the first in a series, so I'm looking forward to reading her next installment.

Incredible

Erin Cawood's book tore me apart, and I couldn't put it down. To tackle such serious issues with incredibly beautiful writing is very difficult, and Cawood nailed it. Gut-wrenching, tragic and important, Tainted Love will stay with me for a very long time.

A wrenching tale of domestic violence

Full disclosure: I met the author last year and have been hosted on her blog. I received an advance review copy of this novel. Please note this did not influence my review.

Tainted Love is the debut novel by Erin Cawood. It follows Faith McKenzie from 1978 to the late 2000s. When we first meet Faith, she's a 20 year old student nurse who is beginning a career just as she's beginning a romance with Calvin, a psychiatrist ten years her senior. Cawood does a good job explaining why events that we shrug about in the 2010s were much more serious in the late seventies. By the end of the year, Faith and Calvin are married new parents.

We know from the beginning that Faith's story is not a happy one, and we see the slow decay of her marriage as Calvin goes from charming and understanding new father to controlling husband who is unpredictably abusive. Faith is a perceptive woman whose internal alarms ring frequently as her husband's violence escalates, but she's all too willing to believe Calvin's excuses and justifications.

By the middle of the story, the only dignity Faith has left is that which she derives from her children. Her conviction that her husband, despite his abuse toward her, is a good father, is what keeps her in the marriage. It is when she sees that he is also a failure as a parent that she finally has the strength to leave.

Faith's journey to find herself as she evades her violent husband is the heart of the book. Is she paranoid to worry for her life? Is it possible to make friends while running from her past? Will she ever be able to provide her children with the financial security their father did? And is it possible for her to find true love after 25 years of abuse at the most intimate level?

Readers should be warned: this isn't a happy story, and it doesn't have a happy ending. The cycle of abuse Faith suffers rings true: disbelief, injury, apologies, justifications and forgiveness until it repeats and all interactions are shadowed with fear and self-doubt. Cawood did an excellent job showing how an intelligent, empathetic woman could find herself trapped in such a situation- and how she could finally leave.

This is the first book in Cawood's upcoming series, Valentina Secrets. I look forward to reading the next installation.

Another amazing book from Nyrae Dawn

It's hard for me to critique this book really because I'm just a huge Nyrae Dawn fan...so I knew I'd love it before I even got 3 paragraphs in. And sure enough I was hooked from the get go and things in my life had to fall by the wayside so I could finish this stinkin book! ;)

Cheyenne and Colt's relationship may start off a bit rough.... (maybe cold's a better word?) but it's not long before you're clinging to every word, sucked in by the vortex that is their crazy relationship. One that makes you laugh....swoon....and root for them to open up and make it work. This book is about so much more than their love story too. These are real characters. With issues. And a plot line that brought tears to my eyes. If you liked What A Boy Wants & What A Boy Needs then you will LOVE this book. This is sorta like the college version of their stories. And I could not get enough Chey and Colt. I want more!!

The thing I love so much about Dawn is her talent with writing from the guy's perspective. I L.O.V.E.D. reading Colt's POV. If you hate "F" bombs then you may not love him as I do because it is his favorite word ;) but I'll take that over the "p" word any day. I just feel like Dawn nailed it... nailed his thoughts and speech....made me believe he's a real person....and made me want to get to know MORE about these two!! Dawn is definitely talented, to say the least.

If this is your 1st Nyrae Dawn book, I'm sure it won't be your last. When I see she or Liz Reinhardt or Steph Cambell or Tamara Webber have a new book out I'm like a kid on Christmas morning who was just told they're going to Disney world. Time stops and reading commences. I mean I was already in the midst of another book (that was good) that I was just reading when I had free time, but when I saw Charade was out I dropped that other book and ignored my poor family so I could read this. =) Yep, I'm a geek.

Would I recommend this? Of Course!
And I'll read it again for sure!

A beautiful story centered around two characters I couldn't get enough of!

Charade by Nyrae Dawn has not only made me an insta-fan of Nyrae but it also broke my heart in all the best ways possible. Chey and Colt are two incredible main characters that you will dislike at times, want to protect at other times, and love all of the time. The story pulls at the heart-strings when dealing with family issues while also keeping a swoony feel through the romance. And the romance people....just wow!

First I would like to commend Nyrae for doing such an incredible job for having an alternating POV book! I love when my stories get me in the heads of two characters I can't seem to get enough of and that is most definitely the case for Charade. I loved seeing how each character was coping, growing, and evolving into something so different but still staying true to the people they were at the core of it all.

Cheyenne has the art of masking her true emotions down to a science. She likes to make people think that her life is nothing but perfect but as the story progresses and we learn more about Chey's struggles, we also learn that perfect is far from the truth. Leaning on the people she should have been able to trust the most in life has led her to nothing but disappointment. The constant let-downs have caused Chey to create a shell around herself, one she doesn't intend on letting anyone through. I get what Chey was going through. While my childhood was not quite as dramatic as the main character's, it was still filled with lots of disappointment. So I know what it feels like to go through that and I know how much easier it can seem to just block people off. However, I have also learned that it is not good to keep that all bottled up. When friends and family tried reaching out to Chey and attempted to connect with her, Chey continually pushed them away. It took her a long time but eventually Chey did learn to let people in again and I loved watching her progress every step of the way. Despite all of the internal struggles and demons that Chey was working through, she was still an easy-to-love character.

Colt, much like Chey, has learned to distance himself from people by putting up a tough guy front. He has one love in his life and that is his mom. Okay, he has a few loves in his life aside from that which include drinking, cussing, and partying. Colt likes to play the part of a tough guy, but beneath that tough exterior you can see a scared boy. Colt's mom is sick and the thought of losing the one thing in life he loves and cares about, scares the crap out of him. My heart hurt for this beautiful, broken boy so much. His struggles in this book cut me to the core and being inside of his head was heart-wrenching but at the same time, it showed me just how great of a person he is underneath it all. He likes to act like he couldn't give a crap about anyone else but as he gets closer and closer to Chey, I could see how caring and generous he was for those that he loves. The voice that Nyrae gave this character was so authentic and full of such "boyness". Colt seemed like a real guy to me which made me love him all the more.

As much as I love Chey and Colt individually, I loved the two of them together even more! The start of their relationship is a bit unconventional to say the least. It all starts when Chey asks Colt to be her fake boyfriend to make an ex-boyfriend jealous. Chey grows a strong dislike for his bad boy attitude while Colt grows a strong dislike for Chey's princess attitude. It's safe to say that these two did not agree on a whole heck of a lot especially at the beginning of the book. However, after spending some time together there was one thing that these two characters could agree on, that there was certainly something more to their relationship than just a charade. What starts off as a pretend relationship of slight hostility between the two main characters soon turns into much, much more. In the beginning, Chey and Colt just wanted to use each other for their own personal reasons but that use turned into need once they realized how much they could rely on and trust one another. What their relationship eventually turns into was my favorite part of this book! Chey and Colt were there for each other through some of the hardest things they had to deal with in their lives thus far. Chey stays by Colt's side as he deals with his mom's illness and Colt helps Chey through all of her panic attacks as well as dealing with what is causing them. They may not have liked to admit it to themselves at the time, but the way they cared for one another was so tender and sweet. Crazy as it was, this romance worked and it worked so well! There was the constant push and pull between keeping up the charade and giving into their real emotions, the individual struggles with wanting to stay closed off and opening up to other people, and the tension that was built up throughout the first part of their relationship turned into something so crazy-beautiful. Chey and Colt together are one crazy whirlwind of emotion, trouble, pain, and passion but it is the exact kind of whirlwind love I enjoy reading the most!

Nyrae Dawn has made me an instant fan of her writing with Charade! I loved how she used the alternating POV to show off two incredible characters that despite what they originally thought, are so good for one another. Chey and Colt may not be perfect and they certainly have a lot to still work through, but I love that their relationship showed them that it is okay to rely on someone, to trust someone, and to fall in love. If you haven't read anything by Nyrae or heck, if you have read something by her but have yet to read Charade, I suggest you do so because you will not be disappointed!

Didn't live up to the hype

CHARADE was an okay book for me. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it, it was just a quick and fun read, with some serious parts. So if you're just looking for a fast read, with some serious moments in it, you could read CHARADE; but for me it just wasn't amazing.

I don't have anything to pinpoint that I didn't like about the book, it just wasn't anything special for me. I had a hard time picturing what Chayenne and Colt looked like, and for some reason that don't make me love a book. I guess when you can picture the characters well it maked you feel closer to them.

As for the story in CHARADE it is good. It starts out with Chayenne walking in on her boyfriend with another girl, he trying to beg her to stay with him, but she stays strong and leaves him. That's when she meets Colt, and try to convince him to be her pretend boyfriend so her ex will see that she can easily move on. From there everything evolves, and Chayenne and Colt get to know each other better, and they share their problems and try to solve them together.

I didn't have any favorite characters in this book, but I was intrigued by Colt's roommate Adrian. That's the only reason for why I might pick up the sequel, because he's one of the main characters in it!

Authentic Power

In simple, plain language, Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk and well known peace activist, gently explains the daily practice of mindfulness (meditation) inviting us to discover personal transformation in ordinary, everyday tasks. He includes no anecdotes drawn from professional work; he quotes little poetry. You'll find no references to other writers and their books on this topic nor any reference to other fields of human achievement. Nhat Hahn's teachings are based on the practice that has permeated his life and thus ring with authenticity. Also authentic are the books concerning awareness written by Deepak Chopra. However, Chopra weaves a glittering tapestry of provocative professional experiences integrated with the words and beliefs of Indian gurus decorated with the verses of Rumi, references to famous authors and art masterpieces and awash with strategies to reveal the Self. A dazzling work of genius. In contrast, Nhat Hahn presents his work garbed in humble cloth and sandeled feet. Miracle Indeed!

This is my second time through this small book and each page feels like a miracle. If I were able to live out even a portion of his teachings I'd be more than satisfied. However, that goal being a bit too miraculous for me, I will attempt one of his practices. I've chosen a small one and have applied it to my life for a week: when I lose the sense of gratitude, I smile and breathe 3 times. This has worked miraculously to pull me towards gratitude and I hope to continue that simple practice til it becomes a more natural part of me. He gives so many good techniques which help to bring mindfulness into the ordinary doable realm. This is a book I will read again and again.

But when Frankie is convinced he has cursed a man and sent him to an early grave, the young lad’s dreams of fame and fortune take a back seat to his gripping fear of the eternal damnation that awaits unless he can find a way to make things right.

Well worth the read

This is quite a good little short story, presumably a tribute to the Irish short story writer Frank O'Connor. It's well worth a read for the story itself, although there are a few inaccuracies and Americanisms for Ireland, especially in the 50s. For example, there would have been no cadillacs in Ireland then and I'd be amazed to see one now. In the Ireland of that time 'dumb' meant unable to speak, the American meaning only coming into usage following lots of movies and TV. Candy would be sweets, sweaters would be jumpers and the word 'Mum' was always regarded as belonging to England - it has really only taken hold here lately in a few areas (apart from the North). And the road to the Curragh is in Kildare and not in the West where Roscommon is.

Having said all that, the speech rhythms ring true, which for me is really the main thing in a story. I would advise the writer to run any future projects set in Ireland by a pair of native Irish eyes and look forward to reading more of her work.

love how Maggie fills in what might have been!

A gift to take a family story sketchily told and fill in carefully crafted details on what might have been. Somehow, I think she could tell this story again with totally different details and I would be just as enthralled

I had expected a regular length novel. I was extremely surprised when it ended where the first chapter would have.
