The landmark challenge takes them all over the country, camping as they go, and by the end of it they will have travelled more than 5,000 miles, overcome all manner of problems and met some truly colourful characters. All the while, of course, Graham’s old life tries to catch up with him in a myriad of ways, and at times it seems as though there really is no escape.
Can they stay ahead of the rat-race? Can they win the challenge? Will Graham stay married, and will the dog ever forgive him?
Daisy’s Diaries was first published in hard-back, by Panther Publishing, with a second print run commissioned when it sold out . It is now available in ebook format in the Kindle store.

The joys of riding an old Brit Bike

I have been wanting to read this book for a long time but it was not available in print. I sure was glad when I found out that it was available as an EBOOK.

It takes a lot of patience to keep an old bike alive and have to give it to the writer for going above and beyond in doing so.

I enjoyed the book from the writers first hand experience of riding Daisy with his children all over the UK in search of clues to some landmarks to complete the Triumph Owners Challenge.

Its a must read for anyone owning and riding old Brit iron or any other classic motorcycle. It gives me inspiration to keep mine going and makes me want to get out and hit the open road.

A MUST read! My copy is the hard cover version which I bought soon after release. It was not long after finishing the book that I soon set off doing the Round Britain Rally, a really great way to see the country on an old classic Motorbike. I gotta say a BIG thank you to the writer Mr Ham or 'G' as he is also known by, as I now have many treasured memories of riding my BSA's with my kids, tent, cooking stuff, sleeping bags etc etc. All the excitement bought to you by reading 'Daisy's Diaries!'

A fun story told with exceptional skill and talent

This book is simply brilliant. As an American and a guy who has only a passing interest in truly old motorcycles I didn't expect to like this book all that much. Enticed by the other glowing reviews I begrudgingly gave it a try and am so glad I did. Ham is an exceptional writer; his prose is decidedly British but in a way I found winsome. Self-deprecating humor is masterfully mixed with vivid descriptions of interesting locales and events as the author attempts to visit fifty landmarks scattered about the U.K. while piloting a old and questionably reliable 1948 Triumph. The content is nicely divided between what matters in life, motorcycle repair, a travelogue and sharing the experience with his children.

I really can't stress enough what a pleasant surprise this book was. As critical as I usually am of self-published and edited works I willingly overlooked the embarrassingly numerous typos to still rate it five stars. It would be wise of the author to go back and clean up the goofs (perhaps a man who rides a 1948 motorbike isn't familiar with spellcheck) and really make this perfect. The book is a healthy length and with such strong writing you need not fear the high cover price. It really is worth it. I look forward to reading the sequel to this quite soon.

A Good Start

But the author needs to find a better editor, one that has a clue about grammar and spelling. Mixing up "you're" and "your" is an amateur mistake. So are the other homophone mistakes that riddled the book. The story itself was reasonably good, though perhaps more revelation about the structure of the society as compared to what we live in would be helpful. As is, it just appears that the author took the basis of everyday American society, added a couple of nifty new features revolving around "talents" but couldn't be bothered with the job of figuring out the societal structure or giving the culture any history or context. The best fantasy novels build a credible world for the reader to view and in many ways inhabit; the lack of that broader scope here just results in the reader being left with the feeling that there is so much we're not being told.

Urban Fantasy Meets Dystopia for a Great Read

Sixteen-year-old Libby's life turns upside down on when her forced Inquest determines her fate: to destroy the world. Family, friends, and boyfriend abandon her, and life looks hopeless until she meets outcast Milo, with secrets of his own. Libby tries to prove she does not want to fulfill her role as the Destroyer, but those plotting against her make that impossible. If Libby wants to live, and protect her new friend, she must fight for that right against all odds.
DelSheree Gladden creates characters you want to know, and I enjoyed her ability to mix regular teen emotions into a plot as serious as destroying the world. She combines modern day situations with other-worldly features making it conceivable that this story could be taking place today. Gladden deftly creates character-to-character relationships readers can identify with, including boyfriend/girlfriend, brother/sister, teacher/student and friend/friend. I particularly liked her treatment of betrayal in relationships, without belaboring the point or introducing self-pity. I loved her character development.

The story piles conflict upon conflict, but varies the intensity of the conflict so as not to exhaust the reader. Also, although the concept of a young girl facing her fate of death and destroying the world may sound dark, the book itself includes enough light and hope so it is not a dark novel. Additionally, I appreciated Gladden's portrayal of violent situations and teen love without overwhelmingly graphic details. The story, characters, and writing keeps the pages turning.

Inquest provides a very enjoyable read, even for those who may not regularly read urban/dystopian/fantasy works. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and following Libby's adventures to the end, whatever that ending might be.

Gladden Does it Again

I first became acquainted with DelSheree Gladden's work when I read her Twin Souls saga. I enjoyed it very much because the characters were complex and their problems complicated. In this book, Gladden again has characters with complex issues. I especially like that Libby, especially, doesn't sit around and whine about her situation. She knows she is the Destroyer, and now the world knows, too, that she is destined to destroy it. Libby, however, has other plans. She is determined to find a way to change her destiny even though most of those around her don't believe she can do it.

Who Wouldn't Love This Book?

Whether you're a cookie lover (like me) or not, this book is for anyone and everyone who is interested in the history, psychology and social aspects of food. Cookie: A Love Story is jam packed with so much fun information that you'll want to share what you've learned with friends, family and colleagues. I fell in love with it because, as a travel and food writer, I'm all about what I call the "Who knew?" factor. I want to be surprised. And Cookie: A Love Story has surprises on every page.

The author includes such cookie-related quotes as: "I think my grandmother actually smelled like a cookie and that's enough to get any child's attention," which was uttered by, of all people, the buttoned-up attorney F. Lee Bailey. Ever wonder what's the most popular cookie that's baked at home? It's the chocolate chip cookie, with some 80% of homes preferring to bake this cookie type, says Brette. And, guess why? One reason, so say food psychologists, is because our moms and grandmothers or other relatives baked 'em, so we keep sharing the love.

As a cookie lover, I'm always forced to ask cookie vendors if their varieties are chewy (which I hate) or crunchy. Invariably, they'll say chewy. (uggg) Now, thanks to Cookie: A Love Story, I understand why. The author quotes Dieter Schorner, a chef and professor at the Culinary Institute, who says that we tend to underbake our cookies in the U. S. because Americans associate the crunch factor with being stale. (Who knew?)

You'll find information on cookie-related blogs; cookie festivals, including a cookie tour in the Union Square neighborhood Baltimore where you go from historic house to house eating a different cookie in each; even cookie board games and songs.

How did the railroad in this country change cookie recipes? Bet you didn't think there was a connection? Brette includes a recipe for Martha Washington's (yes, George's wife) shrewsbury cookies as well as the recipes for both lace and lemon cookies that Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson baked. The book also has a recipe that reproduces my favorite Girl Scout cookie: the mint variety, of course.

I could go on and on about what I love about this book but why don't you just buy the book and see for yourself. You'll fall in love with it just as I did.
