When I first started writing, I read a lot of books about plotting your novel. I learned about snowflakes and wagon wheels, heroes journeys and play acts. The interesting thing about each of those books, they all purported to have found the "one and only" way to plot a novel, or if not the only way, certainly the best way.
However, when I talked to working writers, I discovered that there were as many ways to plan a story as there were writers. However, they did fall into three broad categories: Plotter, Pantser and Explorer which was somewhere in between the other two. All the books only explored variations on The plotter. I saw a need for a book that would not so much tell a person the one and only way to plot a story, but how to discover their own process and once they discover it how to optimize that approach. This is the result of that effort.

Easy-to-Read, Valuable Advice

I recently read the Kindle edition of Elements of Plot: A Personalized Approach by Terri Main, founder of Wordmaster Communications, with a mission of providing writers with "quality publishing and educational services at reasonable prices."
At 99 cents, Elements of Plot is certainly reasonable, and the material inside is concise, valuable, and fun to read.
First in a projected series ("Writing Your Novel YOUR Way"), Elements of Plot includes a variety of methods to plotting/outlining your novel. It is very readable and well-written (only 35 pages, so it's compact), and full of good advice without trying to impose "the" way to approach novel-writing.
If you've been a writer for any length of time, you've run into these one-and-only-way types who just know how a story is supposed to be told. (I've encountered some recently in a debate over the necessity or usefulness of prologues and epilogues, but that's a story for another day.) Main offers different ways to approach plotting, and I will certainly be employing one of those methods for my next novel.

Told me what I wanted to know

I learned that I'm a Pantser, I write by the seat of my pants. I also learned quite a few things about plotless that I didn't know before, so this is a valuable book in my writing library. I won't give the content away by giving examples. Depending on where you are in your own personal learning process in the writing field this could be very helpful to you. If you've already published a dozen best sellers it might not be for you, but if you want to publish a dozen best sellers this is definitely for you!
