We take monsters our society can create and once they prove themselves almost irredeemable we lock them away in prisons that are usually far away from urban population centers. Prison is a culture where prison officers and staff need each other to sustain the profit center prisons have become. Prisons are rewards to impoverished communities in distant parts of states neglected by cities and large industry \ businesses. These counties that are often filled with people, poverty and political savvy vie for prisons to be constucted. Let's face it a state or federal job in a prison is usually a great paying position for slow minded slack jawed mouth breathing losers. Prisons will hire any sane person who has a bare bones basic high school education, strong muscles, a clean record, a drivers license and a well connected "friend" to recommend them.

So prisons are a mix of people who need each other to survive. Prisons mix two classes of people the victim class which are the prisoners and the victimizer class which is the prison staff. Stir in mega doses of racial hate, ignorance, stupidity, gangs, drugs, rape, vice and politics and watch all the excitement that results. Lock Up Diaries is an unflinching look at life in prison laying bare all the evils and hostilities that prison engenders. Amazon.com hates when I review a book about prisons because; I am brutally honest about the product and story told therein. Thank God I've never been to prison as an inmate but, I taught prisoners computer skills, community living skills and job seeking skills in preparation for release. The evils I saw were beyond beleif. I saw both the best and worst in humanity play out before me while teaching in prisons. I saw prison corrections officers who tried within the limits of the institution to treat their charges fairly. I saw others who relished their role as overseer with a sadistic pleasure that would make the marquis de sade look a novice at his craft.

Lock Up Diaries serves up prison life with a soul nourishing realness that makes one think long after reading its many unique and profound messages. Lock Up Diaries makes me happy I come home each night to the waiting arms of a luxury home, a few good friends and people who love me. Reading Lock Up Diaries and books like it remind me just how blessed I am to live free, have a nice job, friends I can trust and a beautiful home. I know only too well that I might have too easily been condemned to prison life in all its ugliness. There are likely so many mentally ill inmates in the snake pits of todays prisons since institutionalization. My hearts go out to the prison officers who must bring some order to the society of monsters prisons become by virtue of their populations. Lock Up Diaries is a real look inside the hellish walls of prison and everyone in prison is profoundly changed by the experience. Amazon.com will likely censor this review because; my prison reviews tell it like it is an autistic trait that keeps me in hot water everywhere.

An honest portrayal of life behind bars

I really enjoyed this one! It's the first I've read in the series, but I felt as if I knew the main character anyway. I gave 4 stars cuz I felt a bit confused by what some of the prison jargon meant & the author could have helped clarify that a bit more.

unbelievably honest and to the point

I have read almost all of this authors books and they are all amazing! I would recommend all of his books to everyone. It is a real life depiction of the deceipt and corruption in our penal system that needs to be brought to light. He has turned his life around and helped many others do the same. Anyone that can give a hopeless soul hope again is more than a great author but also a remarkable human being. I hope Glenn continues to write because I will loyally read anything and everything he gets published!

Dr. Addison Carter was hired by an oil company to be their doctor. Upon arriving to take the position, she is immediately let go as she is a female doctor, not a male as was thought of by her name. In 1917, female were not accepted as doctors in the eyes of the public.
This novel is about finding her place in a community with her knowledge, compassion and love. Slow to start, the story line improves as you read along.

Love found in all the right places

Clara, Tilly and Tucker also found love with people they didn't think they could love, I'm not much for reading love stories but this I think I could read these books over and over and over once you pick them up you can't put them down you have to keep turning the pages to find out what's going to happen . I give this book 5 stars and I'll give the other two 5 stars. Happy reading
